Elements ReCycled Jersey

Our Elements jersey is a Recycled garment, offering high performance moisture wicking and summer style.

What started with a conversation with YKK about their NATULON® recycled range, grew into the Elements jersey. Recycled fabrics are quickly catching up in performance to match first first spun materials and with popularity the price is also making it an increasingly affordable option. The Polyamide fabric is highly breathable, fast drying, moisture wicking and has a very smooth hand feel. You also get built-in UV protection with the 100% second life fabric. The reconstruction process of the fabric is low energy use to make it a positive impact for the planet. Like all our garments, the garment bag and delivery packaging will be recycled or biodegradable also.

Only the high stretch side panels require 25% virgin Lycra, woven into the 75% recycled mesh fabric from PET bottle wastes; as fully recycled materials are yet to catch up with the panel’s comfort and stretch requirement.

A low water sublimation and final wash preparation with sea transport to us, leave the garment with low planet impact. For the lowest impact on the planet: don’t buy it if you don’t need it. The garment is double stitched for durability at high use areas.

Good summer jersey (been using it with a base layer in temperatures up to mid twenties). I love the material of this jersey and its texture. It is more robust than a more typical summer jersey materials (e.g., as found on the Lautaret), I have used it on several days that required prolonged periods of carrying and it’s still like new. I also prefer the extra zipped pocket on the side as it is here (so car keys don’t sit on the top of the phone). The cut sleeves took me by surprise, thinking they would fray, but they have been fine. The only issue with it I am not 100% sold on the silicon non-slip strip inside the sleeves (I have to readjust the sleeves after getting on the bike), and would prefer the sleeves maybe 1″ longer (XXL), but these are minor niggles, not enough not to give it full 5 stars. I’d buy a second one if there was another color choice.

This is a nice jersey, but there are a few niggles which don’t really work for me compared to other Galibier kit I have. I really love the colour scheme (shades of MVDP) but I don’t feel the recycled material is as breathable as my other tops. On some recent rides, using my usual base layer underneath, things got pretty uncomfortable quite quickly, despite it being breezy with the temperature in the low teens.

The raw cut sleeves aren’t my cup of tea (I should have paid more attention to the photos on the website), but my main concern is the rear pockets. My Specialissima jersey has great pockets that you can load up for all day rides, whereas these were sagging with a mobile, some keys and a couple of gels. I’m not sure if this a limitation of the recycled material, but it was a bit disconcerting, not knowing if stuff was going to bounce out over rougher tarmac.

In summary, I would recommend this jersey, but mainly for shorter rides in spring and autumn. It’s a stylish piece for a cafe run, but doesn’t quite hit the mark for the kind of riding I had in mind.
