Stay protected with our Mistral base layer, engineered for those challenging weather days on your ride.
Stay Windproof: With a membrane integrated into its design, our base layer boasts windproof properties on the chest and shoulders, making it perfect for racing and training in unpredictable weather. It’s not just any wind that’s the enemy—it’s the chill-inducing north winds. For days when you aren’t donning a jacket, this base layer ensures that your body remains warm and protected.
Intelligent Design: We’ve incorporated a dual layer at the front to prevent sweat accumulation. The inner layer, right next to your skin, is made of a light, brushed fabric while the Active membrane layer sits on top. The sides feature Airmesh® panels to ensure optimal core ventilation and efficient moisture wicking. The back and arms utilize a perforated polyester fabric that regulates body heat throughout the year—wicking moisture in the summer and insulating in the winter.
Comfort First: All seams are designed with flatlock stitching to prevent chafing. The fit is snug, tailored to be longer at the back and slightly raised at the front, ensuring optimal fit while cycling.
Performance and Durability: Designed for skin contact, our base layers are odor-resistant with excellent moisture-wicking capabilities. They are tough, built for everyday wear and tear, and guarantee optimal thermoregulation. As the saying goes, “It’s all about the base, no wind, no trouble.”

So far I really like this although a wee bit warm to use regularly in summer. The windproof front is awesome. The tight neck has been commented upon by other reviewers I can just squeeze it over my normal-sized head! Garment quality is superb.
I went for medium and at a skinny 186cm 71kg with a 102cm chest the fit is perfect.

Beautifully made – not a single loose thread on it on arrival and still no faults at all after a good few wash cycles. Looks pretty cool too (on the odd occasion when it’s on view!)
The neck opening doesn’t have much stretch (presumably due to the windproof panel not being pliable in that way, so it’s a bit of an effort to get it over even my little pea sized head, but once on the material has a lovely feel against the skin and definitely wick sweat away well.
It’s not a tight cut, so shoehorning a speedsuit over the top of it to race in leave a lot of wrinkles and, with a low cut neck on the suit/jersey you end up with the “is he wearing a cravat?” excess material sticking out! It’s performance, though, is utterly brilliant. No wind – and I mean NO wind, gets through onto your chest, it’s almost bizarre how protected you feel.
Just need a race fit one with a lower neck for modern race jersey/speedsuit designs and it’ll be perfect!

High quality piece. Very comfortable and keeps warm in the wind. 6ft and 110kg and the XL fit close like a base layer does, nothing too tight just right.

Wore this baselayer today for the first time on
a chilly breezy morning ,absolutely superb piece of kit, kept me warm and comfortable, and as always the best reviews are when you can say that you forget you were wearing something. I’m 6’0 and 77k and size large is perfect

Buy this is you race. It will allow you to wear a lot less but still somehow keep you warm. I think it’s woven with magic.
Also, it’s kinda tight getting it over my fat head but once it’s on, we’re in business!

Great base layer. It’s now my go to base layer for everything, even wore it skiing in Austria and it performed extremely well in minus temperatures at 9,000ft! What more can I say…

Galibier customer service is the best around. They threw this in to an order I made. I’ve worn it under their long sleeve jersey. Top class. Comfortable. Another top class product

Firstly the good:
Great looking design (other than the dodgy looking water repellence thing on the right shoulder), very comfortable fabrics. Performance wise it is great at keeping the chill off your chest. Have worn it now in two cold but dry rides where ice was on the windscreen of my car, so as close to zero as we get in Western Australia. Both times I was impressed with how warm I was.
Now the not so good:
Sizing is quite a lot more generous than I am used to. On a good day I am a 96cm chest or 37 3/4″ so opted for the medium. I guess I could have taken the small with how much spare I have around the chest. The other negative is the breathability; the back and sides are fine, but moisture gathers under the membrane and then runs down the front into my lap. By the time I get home it appears that I have a serious incontinence problem when really I only have incompetence issues.
Overall I like the gear but don’t think I would recommend to others for my climate. If you are riding in the rain probably ideal for that scenario.

Worn for an Irish A3 95km race at the weekend, 0 degrees and grim with a fleeting of snow. Warm and wind breaking without being bulky or restrictive, forgot I had it on. First packed for race season from now on.
Wind breaking properties to front were needed most yet breathable at back makes for a great mix, top job as always from the Galibier team.

Normally I wouldn’t look forward to riding in really cold weather and would opt for a turbo session instead. Changed my plans when this baselayer arrived. First ride out in sub zero temperature, harsh wind and snow, so a proper test. First off the fit was really good, medium was perfect. Longer tail and slightly raised neckline both great touches. Coupled with other Galibier winter gear it kept me warm for a two hour ride in horrible conditions. Mesh back meant I didn’t get sweaty either. I have had windproof baselayers before but not got on with them. This is different and I think it is mainly due to the fit and mix of materials. I haven’t mentioned the design which is a subjective thing, but I think it looks fantastic. Just a shame it is hidden under the other layers! Let’s have a summer weight one next.

This will change how I dress for a race in shit weather. Used it for the first time in a 100km race last weekend, all in the rain and yes I was wet, but Never cold. Great job Galibier team.
